Ever have one of those days?

So it seems that technology is failing me here.  I have a nice list made in email to send out to all of the parents and it seems that it is not sending out to ANYONE!  I even added myself to the list, so I know that when I send things, you're not getting them.  I am so sorry!  I will work with our tech person tomorrow and see if I can get this solved.  I've done all of the troubleshooting I know how to do on my own.

My mom said that some days are like this....even in Australia.  (A little Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day reference for you there!)

The link for the newsletter is here.  I promise I've been TRYING to send them out to you, faithfully!  Every week!

Thanks for your patience.

Have a great week!

Welcome to the 2012-2013 School Year!

Hello and welcome!  It was great to welcome a brand new bunch of second graders today!  It was a busy day getting everything and everyone into our room and settled, learning the ways of the room and the building, and already beginning to work as readers, writers, and thinkers!

This blog will be a source of a lot of resources and information for you throughout this school year.  Please bookmark it now, and come back often!

Check your child's backpack for the teal blue folder.  It's FULL of information for you and forms for you to fill out and send back.  Please send them back as soon as possible!  Thanks!

I am so looking forward to working with you and your student this year!

Method of Complements

Here is the link for the PDF of the Method of Complements strategy for subtraction with regrouping.  I believe if you download it from Google Docs and open it with Adobe Reader, you'll be able to see the entire pencast.

Kool-Aid Playdough

Last week, Nick and his Grammy made some new playdough for our class to use for word work.  The recipe is simple and the playdough has been WILDLY POPULAR in the classroom!  I thought I'd share the recipe in case you'd like to make some at your house.

Kool-Aid Playdough
  1. Mix flour, salt, Kool-Aid until blended.
  2. Add oil to boiling water, mix with spoon until cool enough to knead.
  3. Continue kneading until color is blended.
  4. Store in air tight bag or container in the refrigerator.

Introducing Jamie...

Technical difficulties, Jamie.  We'll have to work on this some more.  Coming soon!
